FIRESense Fire Training Simulator

The FireSense Fire Training Simulator is a sensor-based training platform we developed to combine physical equipment with digital simulation for practical fire extinguisher operation and initial fire response training.

With FireSense, users do not simply observe a simulated fire scenario. They physically respond to the fire using a sensor-equipped real fire extinguisher. The system tracks the direction and movement of the extinguisher, detects user interactions, and analyzes the data generated during training.

Performance is evaluated through measurable parameters including intervention distance, response time, and target hit rate, with training results compiled into a detailed report.

FireSense therefore extends fire training beyond theoretical instruction by bringing practice, measurement, and evaluation together within the same training process.

Application Areas

FireSense can be used in environments where users need practical experience in fire extinguisher operation and initial fire response, and where training performance needs to be measured and evaluated.

  • Factories and manufacturing facilities
  • Corporate organizations
  • Training institutions
  • Fire departments and emergency response teams
  • Construction sites and heavy industry

Core Capabilities

Simulation-Based Training with Physical Equipment

A defining capability of FireSense is the integration of the digital fire scenario with the user's physical response.

Users interact with the simulated fire using a sensor-equipped real fire extinguisher. The direction and movement of the extinguisher are tracked in real time, while trigger and pressure sensors detect the user's physical interaction with the equipment.

This makes the fire extinguisher an active component of the simulation rather than a training device used independently from the digital scenario.

Sensor-Based Response Tracking

FireSense combines multiple sensing and tracking technologies to monitor how users respond to a simulated fire.

The system incorporates:

IR / camera-based tracking systems

Support the tracking of user and equipment interaction within the simulation.

Real-time nozzle direction and motion tracking

Tracks the direction and movement of the extinguisher nozzle during the intervention.

Trigger and pressure sensors

Detect physical interaction with the fire extinguisher.

Environmental triggers

Enable elements such as smoke, lighting, and alarms to be incorporated into the training scenario.

Together, these components establish a real-time connection between the user's physical actions and the digital fire scenario.

Fire Suppression Training in Different Environments

Fire conditions and response requirements can vary according to the environment. FireSense training is therefore not limited to a single virtual setting.

Training can be conducted in:

  • Office
  • Workshop
  • Kitchen
  • Customizable environments

This enables users to practice fire response across different simulated working environments.

Customizable Training Scenarios

FireSense training scenarios can be structured around two primary skill areas:

Fire Extinguisher Operation

Focuses on physical interaction with the extinguisher and practical equipment use.

Fire Suppression Skills

Focuses on applying and evaluating the user's response within the simulated fire scenario.

Customizable environments allow training scenarios to be adapted to different organizational and workplace requirements.

Training and Usage Structure

FireSense focuses not only on whether a training scenario is completed, but also on what the user does and how the intervention is performed.

Basic Equipment Operation

Users work with a sensor-equipped real fire extinguisher. Operating, directing, and physically controlling the extinguisher during intervention form the foundation of the training process.

Scenario-Based Response

Users respond to a simulated fire in an office, workshop, kitchen, or customized environment.

At this stage, FireSense transfers the user's physical movements and equipment interactions into the digital scenario.

Measurement and Evaluation

Data generated during training is analyzed to measure intervention performance.

The FireSense assessment infrastructure includes:

Intervention Distance

Evaluates the distance from which the user responds to the fire.

Response Time

Measures the time-related performance of the user's intervention.

Target Hit Rate

Measures the accuracy of the extinguishing action on the target.

Detailed Training Report

Converts performance data generated during training into structured information for evaluation.

This approach moves assessment beyond simply recording that training has been completed and enables user performance to be evaluated through measurable data.

Technology and Infrastructure

The FireSense technical architecture is designed to detect the user's physical response, connect it with the digital fire scenario, and evaluate the data generated during training.

System hardware includes:

  • Mini PC
  • 32-inch monitor with enclosure
  • Sensor-equipped real fire extinguisher
  • Camera
  • Optional smoke machine

The sensor and interaction infrastructure includes:

  • IR / camera-based tracking systems
  • Real-time nozzle direction and motion tracking
  • Trigger and pressure sensors
  • Environmental triggers such as smoke, lighting, and alarms

Working together, these components enable physical intervention to be tracked, associated with the simulation, and converted into measurable training data.

Value for Users and Organizations

Knowing a fire response procedure and physically applying it with a fire extinguisher are different competencies.

FireSense addresses this gap through practical simulation-based training.

While users physically work with the fire extinguisher, the system collects data on how the intervention is performed. Organizations can therefore evaluate not only whether training has been completed, but also how the user performed during the intervention.

Different training environments and customizable scenarios allow the same platform to address varying workplace conditions. The measurement and evaluation infrastructure also supports the structured reporting and comparison of training results.

Customization and Integration

Fire risks and training requirements vary between working environments.

Conditions in an office may differ significantly from those in a manufacturing facility, workshop, construction site, or heavy industrial environment. FireSense addresses these differences through customizable environments and training scenarios.

In addition to office, workshop, and kitchen settings, customized environments can be developed according to organizational and training requirements.

This enables FireSense to support different user groups and workplace training requirements rather than limiting fire training to a single standardized scenario.

Simsoft Engineering Approach

Creating a realistic visual representation of fire is not sufficient for effective simulation-based fire training. The system must also detect the user's physical response, associate that response with the digital scenario, and measure the resulting performance.

We developed FireSense to integrate physical interaction, sensor-based tracking, digital simulation, real-time data analysis, and performance assessment within a single training system.

The sensor-equipped real fire extinguisher and tracking infrastructure make the user's physical response an active part of the simulation, while the performance assessment infrastructure enables the data generated during training to be evaluated.

With this engineering approach, FireSense moves fire training beyond an activity that is simply viewed or completed and turns it into a simulation experience in which users physically practice and their performance can be measured and evaluated.
